TOWN OF MONROE -- VFD Brush 6 was requested to respond and assist with the fire. Brisk winds and dry conditions helped fuel a brush fire north of Monroe Sunday afternoon. It took twenty-one fire departments from Wisconsin and Illinois nearly three and a half hours to douse flames that at times reached 15 feet high, according to Monroe deputy fire chief Lane Heins.

The fire started burning at about 1:00 p.m. near the intersection of Center and Cold Springs roads. Heins said it burned between 800 and 1,000 of grass and corn fields. He said it was by far, the largest fire his department has had to tackle this year. Click for rest of story
