January 31:

Odor Complaint
VERONA – VFD was paged along with automatic aid from Fitchburg Fire to a report of burning odor coming from a residence on Plympton St.  Engine 1 was the first unit on scene and investigated the inside of the house to see if there was a fire. Units reported to the IC (incident commander) that there was an odor inside the residence, but they couldn’t find the source of it.

A unit continued to search the residence for the source of the smell but was unable to pin point the exact location. It was later determined that the possible source was from the furnace.

January 29:

Roll Over Accident
VERONA – VFD was paged along with Fitch-Rona EMS for reported rollover accident on Hwy 18/151. Reports to the Communications Center were of a one vehicle rolled over on the shoulder. Units arrived on the scene to find that the vehicle and that it had not been involved in a rollover accident that it in fact had only slid into the ditch. Firefighters and EMT’s checked the occupants of the vehicle and determined that no one was injured.

January 17:

Electrical Burning Complaint
VERONA -- VFD was paged to the Bank of Cross Plains for a report of an electrical burning odor. Cleaning staff was working at the time of the call and they called 911.

Engine 1 went inside to find the source of the smell and find if there was indeed a fire. After checking all rooms, the crew determined that the source of the smell was coming from the furnace in the basement. Crews checked the furnace and found that it was not on fire or what cause the burning smell inside the business.

Crews double checked the building with a TIC (Thermal Imaging Camera) and determined that there was nothing else on fire inside the business.

January 17:

Accident With Possible Injuries
VERONA -- VFD was paged along with Fitch-Rona EMS to an injury accident on Hwy 18/151 in the City if Verona. Comm Center (Dane County Communications Center) informed units that were responding that reports to them were of minor injuries.

VFD was first on the scene and confirmed that there were no injuries and that the vehicles were safe and no further need for fire and EMS.

January 16:

Extrication Tools Used on Accident
Car CrashVERONA -- VFD was paged along with Fitch-Rona EMS to an accident with someone trapped in a vehicle at Old PB and Whalen Rd.

Squad 5 was the first on location and checked the vehicles for any fire hazards and also checked with the people involved in the accident. The crew determined that one subject was still trapped in a vehicle and that the extrication tools were needed to pry open the driver door to get to the patient.

Fitch-Rona EMS took over patient care once they were out of the vehicle; VFD cleaned up the scene and returned.

January 13:

Several Accidents in a Short Period
TOWN OF VERONA -- VFD and Fitch-Rona EMS were paged to a report of a single vehicle accident, vehicle ended up in a ditch. Fitch-Rona EMS was first on the scene to find a single vehicle in the ditch at Hwy 18/151 just east of Hwy PB. They reported that there was no injuries, but were checking on patients to make sure. Verona Car 1 disregarded Squad 5 and assisted with blocking traffic for Fitch-Rona EMS.

While returning from this accident, VFD was informed that there was another accident just down the road from this one. VFD units responded along with a second ambulance from Fitch-Rona EMS. Verona Car 1 was first on scene to find a single vehicle on the right should of the east bound lanes with it's flasher on.

VFD units assisted Dane County Sheriff's Office with blocking traffic while Fitch-Rona EMS checked on the driver of the vehicle.

While checking the patient of the second accident, Verona Car 1 was advise by dispatch that there was another accident close to them with possible injuries. Car 1 sent Verona Squad 5 to check and to have the Communications Center send another ambulance for that accident.

After a brief time back in quarters, VFD and Fitch-Rona EMS again were paged to another rollover accident on Hwy 18/151 near mile marker 81 on the east side of the City of Verona. While units were responding, the Communications Center informed that there were no injuries but the occupants of the vehicle were unable to get out do to how the vehicle was on it's side.

Verona Car 1 was first on the scene and confirmed that there was a vehicle on it's side and there was people inside the vehicle. Crews made contact with the occupants and determined that they were not injured. VFD stabilized the vehicle then put an attic ladder next to the vehicle to help the occupants out.

January 12:

Rollover Accident
TOWN OF VERONA -- VFD along with Mt. Horeb EMS were paged to a reported rollover accident on Hwy 18/151 near mile marker 74 west of the City of Verona. Dane County Sheriff Department was the first units to arrive on scene and check with the occupants of the vehicle. They determined that there was one minor injury. VFD continued for precautionary reasons and to check on the vehicle to make sure it was stable.

VFD units check the vehicle to make sure that there were no fluids leaking and assisted Mt. Horeb EMS with the patient. EMS ended up transporting the patient and VFD units returned.

January 5:

Rollover Accident
TOWN OF VERONA -- VFD along with Mt. Horeb EMS were paged to a reported rollover accident on Hwy 18/151 near Business 18/151 on the west side of the City of Verona. When units started responding, the Communications Center informed them that there was at least one minor injury. Verona Car 1 was the first unit on scene, and found one vehicle on its roof in the median.

Squads 5 was the next unit on scene and check the vehicle for any hazards, they made contact with the occupants of the vehicle to see the extent of injuries. Mt. Horeb EMS arrived on scene and ended up not having to have to take anyone to the hospital.

January 3:

Two Vehicle Accident
AccidentVERONA -- VFD along with Fitch-Rona EMS were paged to a two vehicle accident at Main St. Fitch-Rona EMS was the first unit on scene to find 2 vehicles that had hit each other and there was road blockage. Fitch-Rona asked that VFD units responded non-emergently because no one on scene was severely injured.

VFD firefighter help with securing the vehicles and helping EMS with the patients, then left.
