July 20th:
Barn Fire in Fitchburg
FITCHBURG -- Squad 5, Tanker 7 and Tanker 8 were called today to assist with Fitchburg at a barn fire on Hwy M. Fitchburg Engine 2 was the first unit to respond, and quickly called for the addition units to respond because they could see smoke from their station on King James Way. Shortly after the 2nd alarm (calls for several mutual aid units to respond) Fitchburg Car 1 called for a 3rd alarm.
First units on scene found a barn involved in fire and quickly set up for an attack. Squad 5 from Verona helped set up water supply and then attacked the fire along with crews from Fitchburg, Oregon, Shorewood Hills, Middleton, Brooklyn, Belleville and the Town of Madison.
Extreme effort was used to try and save the milking parlor of the barn, but the rest was a total lost. Several cows were lost in the fire.
Crews were still on the scene seven hours after the first call came in.
