RV Fire
FITCHBURG -- Ladder 3 was paged along with Fitchburg Fire to a
reported RV on fire on Barbara Lane in Fitchburg. The Communications
Center received several calls about an RV on fire on the road that
it was fully involved by the time people started calling.
Fitchburg Engine 1 was the first unit on location and confirmed that
there was a fully involved RV on fire and proceeded with fire
attack. They continued in all other units until the fire was put
out. Once the fire was out (which was relatively quick) they
returned Ladder 3.

Busy night after a slow day
Ladder 3 was paged along with Oregon Fire, Brooklyn Fire, and
McFarland Fire for a possible structure fire in the Village of
Oregon.
A caller to the Comm Center reported seeing smoke in the area of Hwy
CC just outside the Village and thought some thing was on fire.
Brooklyn Engine 1 was first to respond and make contact with the
caller, which they then determined that the smoke the caller was
seeing, was the smoke coming from a practice burn ORFD was having
just down the road. Brooklyn then returned all units.
While Ladder 3 was returning, VFD was paged out for a residential
fire alarm in the Town of Verona. Engine 1 went enroute with
firefighters waiting for Ladder 3 to return from Oregon.
Ladder 3 also went to the call and was first on scene, but kept
Engine 1 on the assignment.
Ladder 3’s crew made contact with home owner and determined that the
fire was a false alarm.
Congratulations Firefighter
Alexander
On
Saturday May 26, 2008 Firefighter Aaron Alexander married his love
of his life, Carrie. They were wed in Benton, Wis and the reception
was in Belmont. They’re currently resting comfortably in Door
County. So far there are no injuries reported, however the church is
still considered a crime scene.
All fun aside, we at VFD wish the
happy couple the best in their marriage.

VERONA
-- Engine 1, Engine 2, Ladder 3, Squad 5 along with automatic aide
from Belleville Squad 5 and Mt. Horeb Ladder 1 was paged today for a
possible structure fire at the Subway in Verona.
Initial reports to the Comm Center was the employees were smelling
something that was burnt or burning and described it as an
electrical smell. Car 1 was first on location and his first in
report was nothing seen.
Fire 3/Car 1 was inside and determined that there wasn’t an active

check out. Engine 1 was the first firefighting truck on location and
investigated.
Ladder 3 was next on the scene and took the TIC (Thermal Imaging
Camera) into the adjacent business, Movie Gallery. Ladder 3’s crew

Brakes make smoke again
Engine
1 and Fitch-Rona 45 were paged this afternoon for a vehicle on fire
in a driveway. Car 1 responded to the scene also and was the first
unit on scene. Car 1 concluded that there was a fire and that the
fire was out but continued Engine 1 in to investigate.
Engine 1 crew checked out the vehicle and determined that the
smoke/fire was cause by the breaks locking up while the vehicle was
being driven. Minor damage was done to the vehicle.

Wednesday Morning Drill
VFD spent the morning burning down a
70 year old house for a resident in the Town of Verona. The training
burn was on Range Trail and a handful of firefighters were on scene
to clean up.
The house had not been lived in for almost 30 years and the
department decided not to hold any training burns inside the
structure. Instead, the department just burned it to the ground.
Units were on hand to make sure that the fire didn’t spread to any
surrounding buildings and to make sure that there wasn’t a brush
fire started.
The house went up quickly due to a couple key facts;
1. The house hadn’t been lived in 30 years
2. The house was a balloon framed house, so the fire made it to the
second level very fast.

Semi trailer fire during rush
hour
Engine 1, Engine 2, Ladder 3, Squad 5 paged today for a semi trailer
that was on fire and reported to the Comm Center as being next to or
threatening a building, the building being the Verona Area High
School.
Car 1 responded to the scene and was first on location, Fire 3 found
the trailer to be on Hwy M/Main St in front of the High School but
not close at all to be a threat to the building. The tires were
smoking and the smoke was starting to get thick.
Engine 1 was the first fire fighting vehicle on location which the
crew proceeded to attack the fire. Car 1 was command and continued
in Engine 2 and Squad 5 for support to Engine 1.
The semi trailer was not really a typical semi trailer; it was a
rock crushing unit that was being transported to another job site.
Engine 1 contained the fire to just the wheel well. (photo courtesy

departments. The first request was for Mt. Horeb Fire. FDMH (Fire
Dept. Mt Horeb) received a call of a possible structure fire on Main
St in the Village of Mt. Horeb and requested assistance from VFD to
send an engine. Engine 1 responded but was quickly turned around
(sent home) when FDMH confirmed that there was no need for extra
equipment.
Ladder 3 was paged tonight on a first alarm assignment into the Town
of Oregon for another reported structure fire. The initial reports
