October 29:
Afternoon Car Fire
TOWN OF VERONA – Verona Fire paged for a car on fire at the intersection of Fitchrona Rd and Hwy M. While units were responding the Communications Center reported that a County Highway Crew was on location and confirmed the vehicle was fully involved.
Engine 1 was first on location and the crew attacked the fire with water and foam. The car was indeed fully involved and the crew quickly put the fire out. Vehicle was turned over to the owner and crews picked up and left.

October 28:
Chimney Fire
FITCHBURG -- Fitchburg Fire Department was paged to a report of a chimney fire on Osmundson Rd in the City of Fitchburg. Reports to the Comm Center was there was smoke coming in the house from the chimney. Town of Madison Engine 1 was paged to assist with Fitchburg, but had to divert to a call in their township. Command then requested an Engine from Verona Fire to assist with Fitchburg in firefighting efforts
Fitchburg Engine 1 made entry into the house and determined that the fire in the chimney hadn’t spread to the house, so Command released Verona Engine 1.

VFD Hydrant to Fire Department Connection Requirement
VERONA -- NFPA (National Fire Protection Agency) has established guidelines for municipalities as to how far a fire hydrant should be from a Fire Department Connection (FDC). VFD has it's own City ordinance for this too. Click here to download letter from Capt. Miller on Hydrant placements to FDC

VERONA – Police, Fire and Ambulance personnel need to find your home quickly should an emergency occur.

District hires new fire chief (article from the Verona Press)
For the first time in almost two years, the Verona Fire Department will soon have a fire chief.
Jeff Stien, currently a deputy fire chief in Rockton, Ill., accepted the terms offered last week for Verona's part-time position. Stien, who has a 30-hour-a-week position as the chief of operations in the 57-square mile district just north of Rockford, as well as on-call and EMS work, will be paid $30,000 plus benefits, a significant increase from the flat $20,000 the district began paying Marc Lindquist not long before his resignation in October 2006.

Two seriously injured in head-on crash (from the Capital Times)
TOWN OF VERONA -- Both drivers involved in a head-on collision in the town of Verona early Saturday morning were seriously injured, one with life-threatening injuries, and both also face tentative charges of operating while intoxicated, according to police.

Fire Prevention Week
VERONA -- VFD this week has been visiting schools and promoting fire safety throughout Verona. This week throughout the nation is National Fire Prevention and VFD is doing our part to educate the public on fire prevention.
Today the on duty crew visited two schools and talked to the students about crawl low and goes, stop drop and roll, fire escape plans in the home, testing home smoke detectors and other fire prevention items.
