At 13:48 hours on April 8, 2012, Easter Sunday, Verona Fire was dispatched to County Materials Corporation on Nesbitt Road in the Town of Verona for a possible structure fire.  Upon arrival Verona Car 1 found heavy black smoke coming from the roof of the cement block production building that was three stories in height and block construction and established Command.  A contractor had been dismantling a piece of equipment underneath a hopper and a heavy plastic liner in the hopper caught on fire and was also involving the roof of the building in fire.  Fitchburg Engine 2 arrived right behind Verona Car 1 and laid a supply line from the street to the building and pulled attack lines to the structure and Verona Ladder 3 setup the aerial ladder to the roof to extinguish the roofing material.  Verona and Fitchburg units setup the rural water supply out on Nesbitt Road.  Verona Fire had Automatic Aid assistance from Fitchburg Fire, Oregon Fire, and FitchRona EMS, as well as Mutual Aid from Middleton Fire.  All units worked together to safely extinguish the fire without any injuries.  The fire resulted in minimal damage to the structure itself, the plastic liner inside of the hopper was destroyed, and the roof above the hopper approximately 30’ X 40’ was damaged.  Crews were back in the building continuing their work the next day.   Thanks to those mentioned as well as the Dane County Comm Center, great job by all!
