On January 30, 2013, Burlington Fire was requested for a report of a fire at Echo Lake Foods. Upon arrival heavy smoke was showing. A MABAS Box Alarm was requested. Hours into the fire, they pulled more MABAS boxes, which resulted up to 8 alarms, and 5 interdivisional boxes involving 82 fire departments. No firefighters were injured, and the fire was contained after 17 hours. Special hazards included anhydrous ammonia tanks used in the refrigeration process which apparently caused homes in the area to be evacuated as well as homes in the area were catching fire from burning debris carried by the winds. At 12:05 AM January 31, 2013, Dane County MABAS Division 115 was requested for an emergency response of a Task Force to the Echo Lake Foods fire. Verona Fire responded with Ladder 3 as part of the Task Force and operated its ladder pipe at the incident.
